Bologna

Bologna, the Capital of the Emilia Romagna region of Northern Italy is a foodie heaven! Tortellini, Mortadella, Parma Ham & Parmesan Cheese – the region on a plate and all washed down with a superb range of DOC wines -Pagadebit, Cagnina and Bosco Eliceo and the more popular varieties such as Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot and Cabernet!

The region has given many famous offspring such as opera star Luciano Pavarotti, composer Giuseppe Verdi, film director Federico Fellini and fashion guru Giorgio Armani!

There are a wide range of theatres offering everything from opera to the avante garde and for the Formula 1 fans there’s the Ferrari factory in nearby Maranello!

Know as one of the largest well-preserved historical cities in Italy, Bologna is proud of its careful restoration and conservation policy which began in the late 1970s, helping to retain & restore some of its beautiful monuments and historically important architectural buildings.

“Bologna dei Teatri” (Bologna of the Theatres), was borne in 1998 forming an association for all of the major theatre facilities in the city.  Celebrating, creating & promoting colourful and diverse cultural opportunities within the theater community.

Bologna ‘City of Music’ is well known for its rich musical traditions, celebrating a wide range of generes from classical, folk, jazz and opera. The evolution of their musical tradition is ever expanding and plays a vital role in the growing contemporary communities of Bologna.

Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Bologna’s enchanting Opera theatre recently celebrated its 250th birthday recognising its great history and prestige. A beautiful community theater which is highly regarded as Italy’s most important opera venue. A beautiful setting, full of history & character.

A less touristy city which offers a taste (literally!) of real Italian life, 6 thousand years of history and menus to spend the night with and some of the best pasticceria & gelateria in Italy! It’s no wonder the city is known as ‘Bologna the fat’ – but for a few days why not!!
